Lucille May currently holds baby wearing groups in the Asheville area and is working on building a baby carrier lending library to create more access for the community. She plans to become certified as a Babywearing Educator with the Center for Babywearing Studies later this year. She is passionate about babies being integrated into all of the parts of our lives and creating more ease for caregivers and connection for our babies! Babywearing can help to keep your baby close, connected, safe while you are out in different settings. It is a simple, ancient way to both build relationship and foster bonding with our babies, while also having our hands free to work or play.

The lending library is a great way to try out and learn with a new carrier before committing to purchase it. You can check out a carrier and keep it for up to a month. Our library is just getting started and still quite small, so any donations of (ergonomic) carriers are welcome!

Babywearing is best learned hands-on and with immediate feedback. Currently we meet monthly to demonstrate different carriers, share knowledge, and practice. This is a space for community knowledge sharing, so while specific folks will demonstrate at the beginning of the meetings, everyone is welcome to share their experiences to support others.

Little Zen One is North America's largest babywearing shop and a US distributor of many international brand carriers. They have a program called "Try Before You Buy" (TBYB) where you can try up to 5 different carriers, for a week for free. You simply pay shipping to send the carrier to the next family in the mail. This is a great way to try different brands of carriers and wraps, to see different colors and patterns and materials before committing to purchase.

"I have been learning about babywearing since mid 2025 when I became pregnant with my first child. I nannied a young baby for many months during my pregnancy and while caring for her learned and practiced with different carriers. I felt how supportive it was for my changing pregnant body to be able to distribute the baby's weight rather than carry her in my arms for long periods. Now with my own child, I have experienced the connection, freedom of movement, and safety that babywearing provides us around the house and out in public. So far self-taught through videos and experimenting, I plan to continue my education by taking the Center for Babywearing Studies' certification course in fall of 2026. "
